Coronation of the Holy Roman Emperor - Christmas Market
December 15, 2017
Between 1376 and 1792 sixteen Roman-German Kings where elected in Frankfurt. A crucial role in the election and coronation of the Kings and Emperors was played by the prince-electors. In a guided tour (English) we will see the most important places of the coronation ceremony from the perspective of these prince-electors: Saalhof, Kaiserdom and Römerberg. At the very same place we can find these days the traditional Frankfurt Christmas Market. Mentioned for the first time in 1393, it is one of the biggest and most important Christmas Market in Germany, where we can see elaborate and creative stand decorations, the scenic surroundings on the Römerberg and St Paul's Square and the huge Christmas tree, making it also one of Germany's most beautiful markets. Here we will have a nice get-together with traditional mulled wine, finishing our excursions for this year
Rüsselsheim: From Fort to Industrial Town
24 November 2017
Rüsselsheim evolved from a Frankish village into a booming industrial town. Lying next to one of the most important Hessian military forts of the early modern period, it became one of the biggest European automobile manufacturers with its Opel-Werk. We want to learn about this process in the “Stadt- und Industrie-Museum Rüsselsheim”, which was distinguished with the European Museum of the Year Award. Located in the former fort, we will afterwards explore the complex in a tour lighted by torches. Finally we will have a nice get together in Rüsselsheimer Bräu, a place of modern brewing arts. The tours are in English and take about two and a half hours.
Trip to Berlin
September 15-17, 2017
One of our most outstanding events of our GRADE Social Events is a three-day trip to Berlin.
Between 15 and 17 September 2017, we will visit some of the numerous important historical and cultural places of the city.
We will gain a deeper insight into German-German history as well as into Berlin's multicultural life. There will be time to visit some landmarks of the city like the Reichstag building, Brandenburg gate and Museum Island, but we will also make sure to just enjoy a nice evening in one of the city's parks.

Jewish Memorial Großmarkthalle
24 March 2017
From October 1941 to the end of World War II, the Gestapo used the former Wholesale Market Hall as an assembly point for Jewish women, men and children from Frankfurt and surrounding regions who were robbed and humiliated before more than 10,000 of them were eventually deported to ghettos, concentration camps, and extermination camps. On the same grounds, the daily business of the market hall continued, while the ghastly events could not have gone unnoticed among local workers. The last deportation from Frankfurt took place on March 15, 1945. Overall there were 179 known survivors. The Memorial at the Frankfurt Wholesale Market Hall attests to this crime and to the significance of the site for the city’s history.
