In order to "get on the rigth track" within the scope of the GRADE Career Talks, GRADE offers the opportunity to explore individual careers or companies and non-profit organizations as potential employers.

Participants will gain insights into various career paths, enabling them to make the best possible decisions concerning the future career. Besides gaining these fascinating insights, one can establish contact with participants in similar situations and exchange expectations and wishes in a relaxed atmosphere.

Dr. Samantha Ruppel studied Political Science, Cultural Anthropology, Ethnography as well as International Studies – Peace and conflict research in Frankfurt. After her studies she worked for different organizations in the area of international long and short term youth services and youth exchange as well as in educational projects on migration. Afterwards she came back to Goethe University as a researcher and lecturer in the department of International Institutions and Peace Processes. Here she alo worked on her PhD with the topic: Locally based civil conflict transformation between partnership and power imbalance. After finalizing her PhD she started working at the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt as a Researcher in the Project Coercion in Peacebuilding. Today Samantha Ruppel is working as the Head of the Shaping Futures: African-European Network on Development and Sustainability at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability in Bonn. Here she is responsible for programme that includes an Academy/Training as well as an network that serves as a dialogue and training programme targeted at early to mid-career professionals from participating African and European countries. It aims to empower future leaders on both continents by bringing together like- minded peers to reflect on their roles in their respective communities and institutions and develop strategies on how they can induce or support change processes for a transformation to sustainability in the present and future contexts. She is also the co-founder of FEIN - Feminist-Intersectional Research and Consulting. She will present on the 9th of November and will speak about questions regarding PhD positions at research institutions as well as universities and career developments in Germany after a PhD. 


Auf verschlungenen Wegen: Von der Friedens- und Konfliktforscherin zur Leitung Ressort Digitale Transformation

Dr. Stefanie Herr promovierte 2014 am Excellenzcluster „Normative Ordnungen“. In ihrer Doktorarbeit erforschte sie das Verhalten nichtstaatlicher Gewaltakteure am Beispiel der LTTE in Sri Lanka sowie der SPLM/A im Südsudan. Trotz Anschlussstelle als Post-Doc in einem Drittmittelprojekt entschied sie sich 2015 für den Weg raus aus der Wissenschaft. Sieben Jahre lang betreute sie beim Kinderhilfswerk World Vision politische Kampagnen und baute das Digitalmarketing aus. 2021 stand ein erneuter Wechsel an: Seitdem leitet sie im Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels, dem Dachverband der Buchbranche, das Ressort digitale Transformation. Zu Ihren Aufgaben zählen u.a. die strategische Weiterentwicklung digitaler Bereiche des Verbandes, wie beispielsweise der Aufbau eines digitalen Wissens-Hubs und die Betreuung der Interessengruppe (IG) Digital.
