Get on the right track

In order to "get on the rigth track" within the scope of the GRADE Career Talks, GRADE offers the opportunity to explore individual careers or companies and non-profit organizations as potential employers.

Participants will gain insights into various career paths, enabling them to make the best possible decisions concerning the future career. Besides gaining these fascinating insights, one can establish contact with participants in similar situations and exchange expectations and wishes in a relaxed atmosphere.


GRADE Sustain Career Talk: Dr. Philipp Magiera - GIZ, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit

After his PhD in Braunschweig on Hydrogeology, Dr. Philipp Magiera worked as Head of the Jordan Valley Authority's GIS Unit in Amman, Jordan for 2 years.  He then started working for the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) as Project Manager in Jordan, then for 5 years in as Senior Sector Manager in Eschborn, before moving to Laos as Programme Director for 4 years.  After a year-long pause due to parental leave, he is now in Eschborn, first as Senior Advisor to the Director General Europe, Mediterranean, Central Asia for 4 years, and since July 2022 as Head of Section for Departmental Coordination, Europe, Mediterranean and Central Asia.

He will talk about his move from academia into the field of international cooperation, his work at the GIZ both in Germany and abroad (with family), but will also discuss current developments in the sustainability/climate debate and their effects on international cooperation projects.
