The Goethe House in the city center is the place where Johann Wolfgang Goethe was born on August 28, 1749. The Goethe House in the historic district of Frankfurt was the family residence of the Goethe family. Today, the house is a fusion of two buildings in a typical German timber-frame style from about 1600. We discovered the historic site floor by floor: The ancient entrance hall, the wine cellar and the richly carved baroque dining room next to Goethe’s writing room. Through the tour we got to know insights of Goethe's personal domain and the everyday life of the inhabitants in historic times. |

Christmas Herbs and Spices - The "Palmengarten" of Frankfurt12. December 2013 |
|
| BILD |
Christmas time is associated with a number of herbs and spices which are deeply rooted in the culinary traditions of the Western world. Even though these herbs and spices are nowadays used throughout the whole year, they still have a special place in traditional Christmas fare. Within the tour we tasted, smelled and sensed different Christmas spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg or ginger directly from the respective plants. We also found out which of these were used by the Aztecs to flavor their cocoa-drinks, and learned which aromas can be assembled by using a combination of various spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper and clove. |
