Trip to Berlin
08 and 09 September 2023 | Meeting point: 07.35 a.m. at Frankfurt central railway station, at the beginning of platform 15
One of the most outstanding events of our GRADE-Excursions is a three-day trip to Berlin. Between 08 and 10 September, we will visit some of the numerous important historical and cultural places of the city. We will gain a deeper insight into German- German history as well as into Berlin's multicultural life. There will be time to visit some landmarks of the city like the Reichstag building, Brandenburg Gate and Museum Island, but we’ll also make sure to just enjoy a nice evening in one of the city’s parks or the Berlin nigthlife.
Due the greater organizational effort for this event, the registration process is a little bit different then normally. You register like always with the link below until 14 August. Then you will get an e-mail informing you if you are on waiting list or if you have a place. In this case you have to make a deposit of € 50 (to be reimbursed at the end of the journey) with the deadline of 21 August. Otherwise your registration won’t be valid and your place will be given to someone on the waiting list.
Participation is free (except meals)! The accommodation will be in shared rooms and the guided tours are in English. Unfortunately, it is not possible to register for a second time for the trip.
Please note that participation in our group activities is obligatory. Although there is room for individual arrangements, this is not an opportunity to get a trip to Berlin including accommodation financed by GRADE and then to visit Berlin on your own. Should such a situation nevertheless occur, we will claim the costs for the trip from the person concerned. We beg for your understanding. The event will take place between 08 and 09 September 2023. We’ll meet at 07.35 a.m. at Frankfurt central railway station, at the beginning of platform 15.
Please note that registrations are open until 14 August 2023. The maximum number of participants is limited to 20 persons. For questions or suggestions concerning the Social Event, feel free to contact me at EichinGonzalez@grade.uni-frankfurt.de
Main Cruise - Frankfurt by Boat
28 June 2023 | Meeting point: 3.40 pm at the bridge „Eiserner Steg“ on the Frankfurt side
As part of our tour of cultural and historical sites, we’d like to invite you to a cruise on the river Main. The tour will start at “Eiserner Steg” in the city center and will lead us past the picturesque banks of the river Main and the stunning sight of the ECB. After a detour through the Frankfurt Osthafen, the ship will make a turn in front of the historic Gerbermühle and we’ll sail back towards Frankfurt along the Museumsufer to the Westhafen/Schleuse Griesheim. As we relax with a coffee and cake or cold beer, we’ll get to enjoy a fantastic view of the skyline. The trip will be commentated in German and English and its duration will be approx. 100 min.
The event will take place on Monday 28 June 2023. We’ll meet at 3.40 pm at the bridge „Eiserner Steg“ on the Frankfurt side (the side of Römer and Dom), directly by the river bank.

GRADE Regular’s Table
Thursday 01.06.2023 at 07:55 pm in front of the pub Zur Stalburg, Glauburgstraße 80, (near the subway station Glauburgstraße (U5)).
This year we have decided to strengthen the aspect of networking and exchange. Therefore, in addition to our monthly social events, we also offer events that focus on getting to know other candidates and postdocs from different disciplines at an informal, nice evening. We have set up a regulars' table (Stammtisch) for this purpose, which will meet once a month. The development of the Stammtisch, whether games, conversations, food and drink, etc. depends on the group (feel free to bring games, make suggestions, etc.), but we will make sure that everyone knows more people after the Stammtisch than before :)
The regulars' table is held regularly every first Thursday of the month, it is always possible to join, we are happy about every new face!
Hessenpark
Saturday, May 27, 2023 | Meeting point: 13:10 at the subway station Heddernheim, track direction Oberursel-Hohemark (U3)

Cherry blossom in Ockstadt
April 20 | 05.00 pm | Meetingpoint: Subway Station Weißer Stein
Cherry blossom is not only a special moment of the year in Japan, symbolizing beauty, departure and transience, it is also one of the most beautiful moments of spring in this country. With around 42,000 cherry trees, Ockstadt is one of the most important cherry producers in the region and its cherry orchard in full bloom is of exceptional beauty. Home to a wide variety of birds and small animals, we will view the cherry blossom in all its glory and also learn about the history of cherry production in this region. The event will be held in English and follows the motto of the Ockstadt cherry peasants: "From lightning and thunderstorms keep us, O Lord"! Afterwards we will have a nice get-together in one of the traditional Straußenwirtschaften in that area.
The event will take place on 20 April. We will meet at 05.00 pm at Subway Station Weißer Stein, direct at the platform in direction of Heddernheim
Industrial Park Hoechst
27.03.2022 | Meetingpoint: 03.50 pm at Frankfurt Central Railway Station, direct at the beginning of platform 4.
Founded in 1863 under the name Meister, Lucius & Brüning, Hoechst AG was one of the three largest chemical and pharmaceutical companies in Germany. In the early 1980s, the company managed to be the largest pharmaceutical company in the world. With over 180,000 employees, it reached its greatest expansion 10 years later. In 1994, Hoechst changed its strategy, reduced its independent basic research and sold many subsidiaries. The new goal was to be a management holding company focusing on companies in the pharmaceutical and agricultural sectors. At the end of 2003, Hoechst still employed 15,900 people. Today, the Hoechst Industrial Park is one of the largest and most modern industrial sites in Germany and serves as a model for many other sites. We will get to know the plant, including the historic Peter Behrens Building, on a guided tour in English.
After the event, we will have a nice get-together.
Please note that registrations are open until 24 March 2023. The maximum number of participants is limited to 25 persons. For questions or suggestions concerning the Social Event, feel free to contact me at EichinGonzalez@grade.uni-frankfurt.de
Geschichtsort Adlerwerke
22.02.23 | 05.15 pm | Treffpunkt: Kleyerstr. 17
