The Mathildenhöhe area was founded in 1899 to become “a focal point of Art Nouveau and European art development. Created with the aim of reforming art and life, the work of the artists' colony expressed the dawn of modernity through experimental architecture, new spatial art and pioneering design.” In 2021 it was recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site for its influence in the reform movements of the early 20th century.

Main Cruise - Frankfurt by Boat

As part of our tour of cultural and historical sites, we’d like to invite you to a cruise on the river Main!

The tour will start at “Eiserner Steg” in the city center and will lead us past the picturesque banks of the river Main and the stunning sight of the ECB. After a detour through the Frankfurt Osthafen, the ship will make a turn in front of the historic Gerbermühle and we’ll sail back towards Frankfurt along the Museumsufer to the Westhafen/Schleuse Griesheim. As we relax with a coffee and cake or cold beer, we’ll get to enjoy a fantastic view of the skyline.

The trip will be commentated in German and English and its duration will be approx. 100 min. We’ll meet at 3:40 pm at the bridge „Eiserner Steg“ on the Frankfurt side (the side of Römer and Dom), directly by the river bank.

Guided Tour - Marburg

As part of our tour of cultural and historical sites, we’d like to invite you to an excursion to Marburg. During a guided tour (in English), we will get to know important landmarks of the city such as St Elisabeth's Church and the old town up to Marburg's Landgrave's Castle. Important personalities such as St Elisabeth of Thuringia, the Brothers Grimm, Martin Luther, Emil von Behring and Martin Heidegger have lived in Marburg. Most of them were students or teachers at Philipps University, which was founded in 1527.  It is the world's oldest university of Protestant origin still in existence.

The guided tour takes about 2 hours and we will be walking uphill a lot! Afterwards, we will have the opportunity to round off the day with a nice (and optional) get-together.

The event will take place on Saturday, 28 September 2024.

We’ll meet at 12.05 p.m. at Frankfurt Main Station, directly at platform 16 (train RE98).

Winter Hike: Lorsbach - Eppstein

As part of our cultural event series, we’d like to invite all RMU Early Career Researchers to our traditional winter hike.

To say goodbye to autumn and welcome winter, we will hike from Lorsbach to Eppstein over the Staufen.Over the course of a good two and a half hours we’ll walk through meadows and forests passing by many interesting sights. The hike is of easy level, nevertheless it is necessary to wear sturdy shoes, preferably hiking boots (!). After the hike we will have a nice get-together with a Christmas dinner in Eppstein.

We will meet on 30th November at 10.40 a.m. at Frankfurt Central Railway Station directly at the plattform 103 to take the S2 in direction Niedernhausen.

Behind the Scenes: ZDF Broadcasting Center Tour in Mainz

With this RMU Social Event, we want to show you the ZDF Broadcasting Center in Mainz. The ZDF is Germany’s second nationwide public television program.

The tour gives you the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of Europe’s largest broadcaster and shows you how television is made. The guided tour will take 90 minutes and is conducted in English language.
