FRANKFURT. The newly established GRADE award for outstanding doctoral supervision was bestowed on two outstanding supervisors during a festive event on 17 July 2015. Professor Kira Kosnick from Faculty 3 (Social Sciences) and Professor Harald Schwalbe from Faculty 14 (Biochemistry, Chemistry and Pharmacy) were the first professors of the Goethe University to receive the award.
GRADE–Goethe Graduate Academy, the university-wide graduate academy of the Goethe University, asked its doctoral students to evaluate their supervisors .
Clarity and transparency, academic excellence, inspiration and continued support during the doctoral studies process and last but not least, intensive and patient involvement with the doctoral students and their projects were the decisive factors in giving the award. The results were subsequently evaluated by GRADE’s Scientific Advisory Board.
“I am convinced that such an award contributes to improving the awareness of very good supervision,”explains Heike Zimmermann-Timm, Managing Director of GRADE–Goethe Graduate Academy.
The award, consisting of 5000 euros, which was split this time, should be used to support doctoral students. It is awarded once a year.
