Supervisor Peer Coaching

Supervising doctoral researchers is a complex and demanding responsibility that requires not only academic expertise but also strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. At the same time, opportunities for structured exchange on supervision practices are often limited in everyday academic life.

The Supervisor Peer Coaching program provides a guided space for supervisors to reflect on their experiences, learn from peers, and develop practical strategies for their supervisory work. The program is open to professors and postdoctoral researchers who supervise doctoral candidates, both formally and informally.

How it works

At the heart of the program is a structured Peer Coaching. You bring real situations from your supervisory practice and work through them together in a structured, collaborative process.

  • Exploring different perspectives
  • Identifying practical strategies and possible ways forward
  • Rotating roles within the group
  • Gradually moving towards independent, self-facilitated sessions

At key stages, an experienced coach will support the group to ensure methodological confidence and effective learning transfer. Where relevant, external experts may be invited to contribute to specific topics, such as conflict management, mental health, diversity in supervision, as well as clarifying roles and expectations.

What you gain

  • Reflect on and further develop your supervisory practice
  • Discuss challenging situations in a confidential environment
  • Gain new perspectives and practical strategies
  • Connect with peers across disciplines

Upon successful completion, you can receive a GRADE certificate documenting your professional development in doctoral supervision.
