Writing Week for Advanced Doctoral Students

In January 2024, a writing week for advanced doctoral students in the field of educational research took place as a new format by center members for center members. The funding for this event format was successfully raised by two doctoral candidates as part of the “Call for Events” of the Center Education in summer 2023.The writing week was especially for members of the GRADE Center Education who promote in educational sciences and subject specific pedagogies (didactics). The participants stayed one week all together in a rented self-catering accommodation. Three experts gave tips on the writing process and how to handle the last phase at the end of the doctorate. There were also inputs on networking in science and reuse of research data and analysis scripts. Intensive work phases were complemented by feedback sessions, short sports sessions, cooking together and an evening program.


Research Workshop on the Documentary Method by Prof. Dr. Matthias Martens (University of Cologne)

The research workshop took place in person on Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the DIPF (Westend Campus). Prof. Dr. Matthias Martens, professorship for empirical school research with a focus on teaching development and scientific director of Heliosschulen - Inclusive University School Cologne (IUS) from the University of Cologne, led the research workshop. There was an introductory part with a lecture on the documentary method and a workshop part in which participants could bring in their own templates for discussion.


Workshop "Comparative Analysis and Type Formation as Analytical Steps of the Documentary Method" in cooperation with the GRADE initiative "Interpretation with the Documentary Method"

In cooperation with the GRADE Initiative "Interpretation with the Documentary Method" the workshop took place with the instructor Carolin Mauritz (Institute for Social Research at the Goethe University) on Tuesday, February 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Westend Campus of the Goethe University. Up to six additional places were available for GCE members. It was possible to submit own templates with transcript extracts.
