Postdoc Workshop "First Audition? Applying for Professorships"

In 2024 we offered together with the IDeA Center on May 7th and May 8th, 2024 (9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) the online workshop “First Audition? Applying for Professorships” by Dr. Dieta Kuchenbrandt of schainundkuchenbrandt.

Short description: Everyone who aims for a long-term career in science will sooner or later find themselves faced with the subjectively biggest hurdle of their academic career: applying for a professorship. In this seminar we will deal with the necessary qualifications for a professorship, the written application documents as well as content and strategic considerations for the appointment presentation, teaching sample and commission interview. We address the most important stages and critical moments of the selection process, typical questions in the committee interview, possible pitfalls during the appointment lecture and the teaching test, but also the ambivalent interests within an appointment committee. In addition, we train you to successfully present yourself and highlight your own qualifications in the various phases of the appointment process in Germany.

Workshop "Introduction in the Method: Research Syntheses"

The workshop took place in person on May 27th, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and on May 28th, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the DIPF (Westend Campus). Dr. Tamara Heck and Ronja Lämmchen led the workshop. There was an introduction to the individual process steps of research, screening, coding, and result synthesis. Meta-analyses with statistical calculations were not covered. Participants should bring in a research topic or question to work on. Own preparatory work on research syntheses, such as research strategies and coding schemes, could also be discussed.

Workshop Series "Open Science and Open Data in the Context of Qualitative Social Research"

In cooperation with the Department 04 Educational Sciences and the GRADE Center Aging, a total of five modules - half-day online workshops - were offered on various aspects of open data and data management. The workshops took place in early to mid July from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The modules built on each other in terms of content, but could also be booked individually. The aim of the workshop series was to reflect on the opportunities and risks of open data and data sharing in qualitative social research and to acquire practical application knowledge for data management of own research projects. In addition to technical input, interactive working methods gave participants the opportunity to raise and discuss their own questions.
