International School of Pharmacology Giampaolo Velo: Common mechanisms in cardiovascular disease and cancer: focus on platelet activation and inhibition
The aim of the course is to focus on recent scientific knowledge concerning common pathophysiological, clinical, and therapeutic aspects of cancer and cardiovascular disease. Particular attention is given to mechanisms of platelet activation and the interactions between platelets and pathways of inflammatory and immune response, as well as to drugs that target platelets in both clinical and experimental treatments across diverse clinical contexts. Senior Scientists will mentor early-career researchers in these advanced topics by showcasing their recent research findings. Consistent with the International School's tradition, participants are encouraged to actively engage in discussions and to present their scientific work through posters or brief oral presentations.

- Technologische Kompetenz
- Methodische Kompetenz (z.B. Problemlösungsfähigkeit, kritisches Denken und Projektmanagement)
- Soziale Kompetenzen (z.B. Kommunikationsfähigkeit, Kollaboration und Empathie)
- Selbstkompetenz (z.B.
* VUCA = volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity.
* BANI = brittle, anxious, non-linear, incomprehensible.

Was Sie über Projektmanagement in Unternehmen wissen sollten

Career Development Workshop: Your Career Clarity in a Changing Market
Defining career goals: Participants clarify their personal and professional priorities, including their values, interests and preferred working environment. They explore what they want to contribute and develop criteria for evaluating their next career step. Recognising strengths and transferable skills: Through reflection and paired exercises, participants identify their strengths and the skills developed during their research experience. They learn to support these with concrete examples and recognise how they could apply in other professional environments.
Understanding the changing market: Participants explore the “Market Storm” and three waves of change: AI, the Green Transition, and Demographic & Social Shifts. By examining recent job descriptions and professional examples, they investigate employer expectations, recurring skills requirements and questions to explore further.
Future Skills and Agency: Participants reflect on their ability to take initiative, learn continuously, collaborate and make decisions under uncertainty. They identify development priorities across four areas: Technical / Specialized Competences, Methodological Competences, Personal / Self-Competences and Social Competences.
Exploring career opportunities with the C.A.R.E. Model: The model provides a practical structure for connecting self-awareness with market needs:
- Change Awareness: Understanding what is changing in potential roles and sectors.
- Adapt Your Edge: Identifying valuable strengths, transferable experience and learning priorities.
- Reframe: Exploring career options through the problems participants enjoy solving and the contribution they could make.
- Evolve: Choosing practical steps to stay relevant and develop new opportunities.
Creating a Career Flex Plan: Participants conclude the day by identifying 3 Skills to Build, 1 Thing to Drop and 1 Door to Open, together with a concrete next action and timeline.

Career Development Workshop: Positioning, Visibility & Networking
Session 1: Professional Positioning and LinkedIn
- Understanding perception and projection: Using the Perception Gap and Projection Gap, participants explore how others currently see them and what they need to communicate to be considered for their next role. They connect “What I have done” with “What I am able to create”, using evidence from their research experience.
- Developing a clear professional profile: Participants work on their LinkedIn headline and opening summary, making their expertise and contribution understandable to audiences beyond their research specialism. An Evidence vs. Projection exercise helps them assess whether their profile supports their intended career direction.
- Professional introduction: Participants develop a Corridor Sentence, a clear statement someone could use to introduce them to an employer or collaborator. They also have the opportunity to practise a short professional introduction and receive peer feedback.
Between sessions, participants refine their wording and identify relevant contacts or organisations.
Session 2: Visibility, Networking and Creating Opportunities
- Closing the Visibility Gap: Participants create a Situational Visibility Map to identify where relevant professional conversations take place, which people they would like to connect with and where their expertise could contribute.
- Building a professional network: Participants map existing contacts and explore how to connect with alumni, researchers and professionals in relevant sectors. They practise personalised outreach and follow-up, with attention to building useful, reciprocal relationships.
- Learning through professional conversations: Participants practise informational interviews to better understand roles, employer expectations and changing market needs. They learn how to introduce themselves, ask useful questions and identify an appropriate next step.
- Turning insights into action: The module closes with Get Clear. Be Intentional. Take Action. Participants develop a realistic 30-day plan for testing their positioning, building connections and exploring opportunities.
